Prepaid Cell Phone Service Just Makes Sense: Ditch Your Contract Today!November 24, 2008 on 11:59 pm | In Prepaid Cell Phone Services | 6 CommentsPrepaid cell phones are exactly what they sound like. You simply open a free account, buy a phone, pay for the amount of airtime you need, and your cell phone is ready to use. When you use up all your minutes you can easily load your phone with more. There are no credit checks or contracts required, so it’s easy for anyone to sign up and activate service. Compare that to traditional wireless plans, where you have to expose your credit score and personal information to whatever random employee happens to be working that day. Traditional providers will also force you into a 2-year contract that will cost you big money to terminate. If you have a problem with reception or the company’s customer service, you have just have to suck it up or be prepared to waste a whole lot of money. It costs well over $100 per line to cancel your contract. Imagine how much it would cost you to terminate a family plan! What’s even worse is that the contract you signed can change at any time. Obviously, changes made to the contract will only be beneficial to the company issuing them. The scariest part is that the contract can be renewed without your consent! Naturally, people got tired of being bullied around like this. When a better alternative for wireless service – that being prepaid plans – became available, people rushed to take advantage of it. The prepaid cell phone industry has been growing by leaps and bounds in recent years, and for good reason. One of the reasons prepaid plans are rapidly growing in popularity is because they allow the user full control over how much they pay. You’re never hit with any hidden fees or additional charges. Since you pay for your airtime before it’s made available to you, it’s impossible for you to use more than you have. Most cell phone users who are tied to a contract will occasionally use more minutes than they have available, resulting in a big surprise when they open their bill. If you have a teen in the household these expenses can easily add up to an amount that’s more than you can afford to pay. On the opposite side of the spectrum are users who never even come close to using their alloted airtime. Maybe they use their cell phone for just a few minutes each day, or maybe they overestimated how many minutes they were going to need each month. Whatever the case, it’s a waste of money to be paying for minutes that will never have a chance to be put to use. On average, about 20% of postpaid minutes go unused. No smart consumer likes to throw away money like that, but wireless contracts leave you no other choice! Luckily, prepaid wireless users never have to worry about wasting anything. Switching to a prepaid service allows you to make the most of your money and maintain full control over your cell phone usage preferences. If you want to avoid lengthy contracts and enjoy the freedom you deserve, a prepaid cell phone might be the best option for you. 6 Comments »RSS feed for comments on this post. I really like Net10 actually. Their coverage is great and their plans are affordable and very clear calling and texts rates (10c a minute for all local, long distance and roaming calls and 5c texts). The other thing is if you buy a new Net10 phone you get the first 300 minutes and 30 days free, so try it out for the price of a cheap phone (cheapest is $19.99). Hope this helps. I like the coverage too. I haven’t had any issues with service.
